Many of the incidents and all the court hearings bar one, I witnessed first-hand.
Much of this book is based on court transcripts, judgements and submissions which are reproduced in movie script format with distinguishing headings.
At the conclusion of each chapter there are notes on the people mentioned, Maori words, legal terms and any points of interest.
Although I have tried to keep events in chronological order, there are inevitable overlaps due to the time lapse between arrests, court proceedings and the release of judgements. In the notes, I have inserted a general time frame to help readers adjust to the turmoil of Phil Taueki’s life.
And finally, I have adopted the concept of a milieu, to capture the essence of each chapter. Perhaps this should be at the beginning of each chapter, but then I am not the type of person who reads first the final page of a mystery.
